Sitting silently on a mounting block, Kate sipped at her water through bordom. The faint neighing of horses and the rattle of the branches against the various buildings filled the air. This was going to be a memorable year she could tell. With the students so fixed on winning rather than learning, there was going to be some tears.
"Come on.." she mumbled looking down at the large clock, hung proudly on the wall at the end of the arena. Everyone was already seven minutes late and they should know by now how strict Kate was about her time keeping.

Kennedy had just gotten Midas all tacked up in the hustle of all the students around the barn, she was glad that she had stuck around to get him ready, the barn was a frenzy of kids, horses, girths, and hoof picks and she was glad to be able to lead her golden stud into the ring. As she walked him in, she put on her black/pink Charles Owen Helmet on her head and pulled down the stirrup on her Pessoa saddle, and mounted up. She saw the emptiness of the arena and knew Kate wouldn't be pleased, but she ignored the akward situation and began trotting Midas in circles to loosen him up

Jake was close behind Kennedy. He led the filly into the ring and pulled himself into the saddle. He had just had her practicing so she was loose and ready to go. Bobbing her her saw pawed the ground wanting to start already. He held her back a little but let her trot around the ring. Noticing the stud she whinnied and pulled that way but Jake held her on course as he steered her around the ring.

Kennedy was doing fine putting Midas through the normal warm up until she saw Jake riding in the ring getting Imp ready. With just one look, Midas stopped dead almost tossing Kennedy over top of him, he knew exactly when she lost concentration. She sighed, there was no way she could go on with the lesson and focus without talking to Jake first. So she slowly walked Midas over to the black and white filly. Then she wondered how to start the conversation, she couldn't figure it out so she went for it.
"Jake....um....don't take this the wrong way but why in the world are you with Kylie?" she blurted. There she had said it, and it was all but subtle, however it needed to be said. She waited for an answer.

`` `` `` Tears slid down Meredith's cheeks, as she through a slid a casino print saddle pad onto Ares's back, following with her LeHaude close-contact jumping saddle. Buckling her German martingale around his neck, following with the girth. Bending down, she buckled a weighed tendon boot, around each white-looking leg. Meredith cleared her throat, before reaching for her tallboots, stumbling as she jammed her foot in the bottom.
"Gah...." she yelled to herself. Finally getting them both on successfully, she pulled her GPA air helmet onto her head. Not buckling it yet, she bridled Ares as quickly as possible, before attaching the Martingale straps to his reins. Another tear leaked down her face. 'Pull yourself together.' she said mentally to herself. Wiping her face dry on the sleeves of her blouse. Leading Ares into the arena, her face pink from crying, she immediately looked to the clock, she was fifteen minutes late. Her eyes then darted to Kate. Pulling Ares along, she opened her mouth to begin explaining. "I'm sorry for being late." she said, about to explain why she was late, but she chickened out, hoping she didn't notice that she'd been crying.
Tightening Ares's girth several holes on the left side, she rolled down the stirrups, before swinging up into the saddle. Starting into a brisk walk she gave Ares some slack in the reins, and he immediately stretched his head down to tighten the contact. After about 6 minutes of walk, she picked up the trot, still at the same rein length, Meredith extended his stride slightly, passing the several other horses and riders which took up the railing. Her mind still on why she was late, she began to think about Kate, knowing that she probably wasn't too mad at her for being late. Mere had always thought that it was pretty cool that her best friend was also her riding instructor. She'd always loved that. Her eyes flickered back to Kate warily though.

Jake looked over at Kennedy and smiled as she approached. As she spoked though the smiled faded. Thinking it was an odd qestion, he tilted his head slightly. "Look I know you two don't get along," he said sympethectically. He wouldn't say it but he really missed having Kennedy around all the time. "After we broke up she was just there for me. I just took up pace with her." He shook his head not really knowing if that was a good enough answer. Probably to try and forget you, he commented in his head. Imp sniffed the stallion and stompped her foot throwing her head in the air. Jake tightened his grip on the reins just to keep her under control. He turned his head noticed the woman arriving. His eyes then drifted back to the girl beside him almost ashamed. He grinned though as his eyes met hers thinking of all the times together.

Kennedy resisted the urge to roll her eyes at his answer, but she thought what did she expect him to say? She knew what she wanted him to say, that it was hard getting over her and going to the opposite extreme was the only way. But she doubted that was true. She looked down and realized, no matter what she said it wouldn't change the fact that Jake was with Kylie. She just had to find some way to accept it.
She sighed and met his gorgeous eyes,
"Ok Jake, maybe because I don't like her I just don't get it. But I accept it. I just hope it doesn't stop us from being friends. I don't want to lose you." she said though she felt like she already had lost him, the day they broke up.

OOC: sorry wrong account "I'm always here for you, Kennedy." he said smiling once more. Feeling the awkwardness though he pushed the filly forwards again and they trotted off around the ring. He shook his head thinking about what just went on.

Kate smiled as her students began to file in and warm up.Scanning the arena Meredith came into view, she looked upset. More than upset . Her smile faded into a more consirned expression, "Meredith?" she said. "What's wrong." Jumping from her seat she jogged slowly, so she didn't cause any arrousion. Coming up beside Ares she gRabbed his reins loosely and brought him to a slow walk.

`` `` `` Meredith raised her shoulders, shaking her head, staring straight ahead of her, though she was seeing something very far away from where they were at this time. "He's gone......" she muttered, her voice trailing off uselessly. "He's gone....he's gone....he's gone....." she kept repeating. She was on the verge of breaking again. Another tear rolled down her cheek silently. "What-have-I-done? What-have-I-done? What-have-I-done?" she whispered, barely audible. "Jack is....." she said, her voice cracking. "....dead. It's my fault!" she cried, horrified. Her two year old brother was dead. "Kate?" she muttered. "You know when I said that I was in a car accident while I was away at home? Driving Jack back to the house after I picked him up? And how I said that no one was hurt?" she said, stuttering almost every other word. "I lied." she confessed, several more tears pouring over her eyelids. "Jack broke three ribs, his collar bone, and had several subdural hematoma's." she said, her eyes just saying the word: Horrified. "Don't tell anyone." she said a minute or two later. "Just....don't say anything." she sniffed.

(Sorry. Wrong account ) Her eyes scrunched, trying to shut out the words. She'd known Jack nearly as long as Meredith although they hadn't really spoke much. She shook her head, looking down at the sand covered floor. She could imagin the carnage and it hurt her deeply. "Look, you shouldn't be riding. Go and have a lie down, if you want to go home and visit your family we'll understand." Using the word ''We'll'' meaning the whole academy. Just too think how she had coped with knowing that he was so badly ingured and still came to the academy was bad enough, but, now her brother dead. She realised the horse's reins and motioned towards the door with her head.
