Lindsey sat in the car as it rolled up the track. She was breathing into the window, making a circle of steam, then writing or drawing onto it. She breathed into it and drew a smiley face, then took her hand and wiped it out.
She looked ahead of her. They were coming up to the roan barn. Lindsey was nervous. She was that kind of Pearson. Always questioning things, when nothing bad ever happened.
Emma, her bigger sister, was sitting in the back. She had her legs crossed, resting her hands on her lap, looking out the window. Nothing-fazed her- she was calm and relaxed. How could she be? She wasn’t an organized person (Unlike Lindsey). She was sitting in her yard stuff. She had a black fashionable jacket on, which turned in slightly at the waste. She had a brownie scarf on, with different shades of brown on it. Her Jodhpurs were also brown with a darker brown lining to them. She also had ariet iceberg boots on. Her hair was tied in a messy bun, off her face. She looked down at her hands, stretching one out and looking at her nails.
Lindsey on the other hand had a brown Casper jacket, leather riding gloves and beige & brown jodhpurs. She had brown Jodhpur boots on with black brown chaps. Lindsey fiddled with her coat zip as the car came to a halt.
“Right Missy!” Emma leaned forward in the middle of the two front car seats and messed with her sister’s hair. “We’re here!”

Lindsey nerves were getting the better of her. She got out the car and felt like she was going to be sick. Her sister could see her worried ness and put her arm round her, giving her a comforting squeeze.
“You alright?” She asked, smiling at her wee sis. Lindsey nodded her head, in an unsure fashion.
“Right!” Their dad said, clapping his hands together. “Shall we start unloading this horse of yours?” He looked at Lindsey smiling. “Ok, Lindsey, you go into the side door and me and Emma will get the back of the trailer down for you, ok?” Lindsey nodded, was walked round to the side of the trailer, unlocking the door. She could hear her sister and dad chatting away as they walked to the back.
She opened the door to find her pony, Ruby, standing munching hay. She turned to her, ears pricked, seeming surprised. Her facial expression was like she was saying, “Oh, Hello, It’s you again!”
“Hey girl,” She croaked, this was the first time she had talked in a while. She offered her mare a polo, which she took eagerly. She undid the lead rope and held onto her mare.
“One, two, three, and down!” She heard Emma and her father as they lowered the ramp.
Suddenly sunlight came pouring into the trailer. Ruby looked round into the sunlight, breathing in the air. “You ready Lindz?” Emma called. “Yeah!” Lindsey replied.
She started to back her mare down the ramp, but as soon as she got onto the ramp she turned her mare, and walked her down facing the right way.
“Don’t turn on the ramp!” Emma scolded.
“Oh, Shut up Emma!”

“Right, so you’re in stall 7, I think.” Emma said, walking beside her little sister was they took the mare into the barn. “It’s just along here.”
They walked along the line of stalls, up too the stall that was marked 7. Emma unlocked the door for Lindsey and Ruby, opening it wide. Lindsey walked in with her mare.
Ruby had all her travelling gear on. The lot. She couldn’t have been safer. She had a deep purple day rug on with pink and white lines – Lindsey’s cross country colours. Her headcoller matched, the same with her lead rope.
The stall had already been bedded out by Emma, before she went to the ferry to meet her sister and father. She had hung a haynet up for her – one of Abbie’s, but she had allowed for it to be borrowed.
Lindsey tied Ruby up next to her haynet. The mare started pulling at it, taking big mouthfuls of hay. “Need any help sorting Ruby out?” Emma asked, leaning over the door. “No.” Lindsey said, shaking her head. “I should be fine.” “Ok then, I’ll make a feed for her, ok?” Emma locked the door. “No, I want to give Ruby her feed myself.” “I tell you what, I’ll make the feed, and you can give it to her, ok? That sound like a good deal?” “Oh, Ok…” Lindsey agreed. To be honest, she really didn’t care. She just wanted some time with her pony.
Emma walked into the feed room, her dad had left Ruby’s feed bucket. It was pink and purple (Cross country colours, yet again) with RUBY on the front, in bold funky white letters.
It was the round about 12am, round about time for Ruby’s noon feed. Ruby had her hay, so that was fine; all she needed was her mix. Emma got a scoop and chucked 2lbs of pony nuts into the bucket, along with 1lb of barley & 8oz of sugerbeet pulp. Emma lifted the bucket and gave it a good shake. That was all it needed.
“Here you go sis.” She said, handing the bucket over the stable door. “I’ll go and help dad unpack Ruby’s stuff from the car, ok?”
