Lindsey swung open the gate. She walked into the arena, leading her pony, ruby. The little chestnut mare looked tired – lazier than anything else. She shook her mane, stretching her head out, not exactly looking lively. She was a sweet mare, even though she did take a bit of leg to get her going. But Lindsey knew her pony, and she could get her to go alright!
Lindsey walked in on her mare’s left hand side, leaving the reins over her head. She held a whip in her hand and fiddled with her helmet strap. She asked her mare to a halt and went round to her side to sort out her tack. The mare stopped and yawned. Walking was proving to be a very tiring task.
Her saddle was a nice dark brown children’s saddle. Lifted the saddle pad and tightened her girth by two holes. Her girth was a bright red girth, to match her amigo saddle pads. She pulled down her both of her stirrups, which were at her length because she was the only one who rode her pony (Except Emma, but she hadn’t rode her in a while.)
She walked round her side and gathered her reins. Her mare stood, letting her head drop so it was in line with her back. Lindsey grabbed a bunch on mane and the pommel of the saddle and put her left foot on the stirrup. She jumped 3 times before starting to mount up. She started straightening her left leg, lifting herself up to her ponies back. Once she was standing in her stirrup she threw her other leg Ruby’s ride and mounted into the saddle. She searched for her stirrup, putting her foot in, and then she was good to go. She stood up a few times and checked her girth but everything was fine, so she asked her mare to walk on.
She started giving her mare hard nudges, telling her to wake up. It wasn’t working.
“Oh, come on sleep head!” She said, using her legs firmer. “Stop being such a lazy girl!”
Ruby attempted to walk forward, but gave up. Lindsey then gave her mare a good few kicks. Ruby walked on slowly. She wasn’t going very forward going. Lindsey gave her a few more kicks as she walked onto the track, getting her mare to wake up more. Ruby started to get the point and picked up the pace. She started walking round nicely.
Lindsey shortened her reins, nudging her mare on in a 20m circle up at the C end of the school, looking at the jumps she had set up.
