Luke walked towards the stables with his mare. He wanted to get her settled in as soon as possiable so he could go check out the academy. Entering the large barn, he looked around with a smile. It was clean and pretty roomy which made him more comfortable. Coming to the stall that was reserved for him, he pulled the heavy door open to reveal the nice big stall. He unclipped the lead from the mare's halter and led her into the stall. She pawed at the sawdust a little and stood watching Luke as he closed the door. Luke hated leaving her anywhere and always felt bad that she had to be in a stall. Putting her nose up to the bars Jodie snorted and bobbed her head a little. Luke laughed and scratched her soft nose. "You have a good night, girl. Behave yourself." He turned to walk out of the barn and tryed not to look back. With a sigh, he waled off to check out what else was around.

Kate coughed dryly as she walked down the aisle, she raised her eye brows as she saw a new mare in one of the stalls. "Hello." she grinned. Greeting the mare with a friendly hand. Bending backwards she couldn't see anyone around. "Where's your owner?" she asked handing over a white mint. She knew how mad she sounded but then again no one was around.

The mare took the mint and bobbed her head as she chewed it. "That would be me." A man said stepping around the end of the barn. "Why would you want to know?" he asked raising a brow with a chuckle. "Did he do something wrong?"

Kate jumped as a new voice entered their 'conversation'. Her head instinctivly turned and her eyes fell upon the man standing near the end of the barn. "No, no" she laughed brushing her fingers through the horse's fletlock. "I was just checking out the barns 'cos people are starting to arrive." she coughed again into her hand note to self: must get medicine from store. she noted herself.

He laughed. "Well that's good. I wouldn't want to get in trouble before I ever got to do anything." He walked up to the woman and patted Jodie's neck. "I'm Luke." he added introducing himself. He turned towards the woman waiting a response and gave a friendly smile.

"Kate." she added. "I'm the Showjumping Head." she said proudly. This was her second year as an instructor here and this time she was head of jumping. Of course her parents had been very proud and so had she but the exciement was beginning to wear off now. "So what do you do here?"

"Clean stalls." he said with a laugh. "I'm just a hand, nothing special." he sighed a little knowing he was much under her in rank. "But it works for me. Gives me something to do and i'm still around horses all the time."

"Stable hands are very important." she smiled, scratching the mares muzzle. "I know I couldn't cope without them." she added. Her eyes flicking from the bay mare to Luke momentarily and then back to the beautiful Quarter horse. "Have you worked here before? Only I haven't seen you around."

"Nope just got here." he answered. He watched her with the mare as thewoman stroked the horses muzzle. Jodie of course soaked up the attention and nudged the woman wanting more. "She's a big baby." Luke commented nodding at the horse. She was a great horse to have around and had the best tempermant. She could be a little annoying though wanting attention all the time.

"She's a flashy mare." she said, rather to the mare than Luke. "What events do you ride in?" she asked, leaning over the door to see her legs and hooves. Her mother said you could always tell the quality of a owner by the condition of their horses hooves. She was hoping for a good set of feet and thankfully they looked in great condition, glossy and a nice color with no cracks or over growth.

"She's bred for reining and barrels. I used to race her but now we normally just take it slow on the trails. She was a great competitor back home when she was a little younger. We just take our time now." He laughed a little. Yeah they liked to just trail but Jodie would get it in her head every once in a while and get it in her head the she was a barrel horse again. "I've had her since she was born and she came in handy out on the ranch."
